When we design a sustainable garden, we help to preserve natural resources and take some of the pressure off the natural environment. (Image credit: Miriam Heppell/Alamy Stock Photo) 5. Use sand as part of an eco landscaping project It's a great idea for landscaping around trees, plus the tree throws dappled shade onto the sand pit to offer protection on hot days. We love the Acer palmatum that sits in a bed of white pebbles, the stems pruned to show off the sculptural qualities of the tree. It's been executed really well and shows how landscaping with sand can work successfully for all the family, creating a space that is suitable for children and grown-ups alike. It's a simple idea if you're looking for ways to design a child friendly garden. The smooth cedar wood decking features an inbuilt children's play sand pit which comes with a matching cedar wood top that slots in to close it off when the space needs to be switched up for entertaining in the evening. Let's face it, most sand pits are an unwelcome intrusion to your garden design but this courtyard in central London by Laara Copley-Smith reveals a novel way of approaching the dilemma thanks to the innovative decking idea. Use white sand for a clean and contemporary look If you don't live in a warm climate you can still get the look by planting them in containers set in sand for the summer, then bringing them inside when the weather gets cooler. Spiky aloe vera and other cacti and succulents will thrive in sand too. In many tropical and warmer climates (USDA zones 11 and12) it's grown outdoors as an ornamental plant year round, while in cooler zones it tends to be cultivated as a houseplant. The red desert rose is a real eye catcher that looks stunning against a sandy backdrop and is one of the best drought tolerant plants. ![]() Desert-style planting is often the most practical design for seaside gardens too. You don't need to heap chemical fertilizers on the plants and watering is minimal so it ticks the eco box. Using sand in your landscaping is a very sustainable way of gardening as well as being the natural choice if you live in a mild or coastal climate. The bureau also found that older customers or customers whose primary language is not English may end up in a customer service “loop” and unable to reach a human agent. “There are federal laws that give customers rights when it comes to debts, or disputing a transaction, and if customer service agents are being substituted for chatbots, that can pose problems if that software gives them inaccurate information,” Chopra said. While these services may save customers minutes or hours waiting on hold to reach a human to ask a routine question, the agency has concerns about whether these chatbots will be able to handle the nuances and complicated nature of consumer protection laws without giving customers inaccurate information. Bank of America bankers can use Erica to build customer profiles and potentially recommend products to those customers. JPMorgan Chase is reportedly developing plans to use ChatGPT and artificial intelligence to help customers pick appropriate investments. The CFPB estimates that roughly four out of every 10 Americans interacted with a bank chatbot last year, a figure they expect will grow.īanks are getting ready to roll out even more advanced AI-like services. But as banks have invested millions into these services, chatbots have gotten especially sophisticated, able to understand full sentences or even help a customer move money around or pay a bill. The CFPB worries that banks or loan-servicing companies may cut back on human customer service employees and push an increasing number of routine tasks to AI. That's what the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is asking in a report released Tuesday, where the bureau lays out a number of concerns about the growing use of chatbots by banks to handle routine customer service requests. NEW YORK (AP) - Can you trust Erica, or Sandi or Amy to increasingly control parts of your financial life without giving you inaccurate information or sending money to the wrong place? ![]() It comes in rolls and is available in an assortment of colors, including white for artwork on darker papers. Is carbon paper and tracing paper the same thing?Ĭarbon paper is a wax free pure graphite which allows you to transfer designs from a sketch, pattern, template or free-hand to any surface It makes a clean crisp tracing which can be easily removed. “What we believe is that chronic exposure to the carbonless paper can be hazardous to a person’s health ,” Schmidt said. What they discovered, Schmidt said, is that potentially dangerous chemicals are used to make the paper, and these can escape into the air as well as penetrate the skin. While carbon paper leaves lines that stay put, graphite transfer paper, which is unwaxed, lays down a line that’s erasable Since it’s water-soluble, it will also essentially disappear into wet paint (though watercolor artists should note that some watercolors can set graphite, making the lines permanent). What is the difference between carbon paper and graphite paper? The tattoo transfer paper can be used with an inkjet or laser printer without any issues. This paper would be thermal paper or hectograph carbon paper. You can use a regular printer to create a tattoo you just need to make sure that you are using the correct paper type for tattoo stencils. Apply the stencil to the skin carefully.Ĭan you use tattoo transfer paper in any printer?.Apply the roll-on Speed Stick brand (or generic equivalent) deodorant to the shaved area of skin.Shave the area you are planning on tattooing with a razor. What can I use to stick a tattoo stencil on? Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto the cotton ball or swab, and apply the alcohol over the area of skin you wish to transfer the design to Make sure the skin has become moist with the alcohol. Both the artist and the client should check the placement and clarity of the design. The tattoo artist then slowly peels the paper off in a smooth motion from one side to the other. The stencil is patted onto the skin (not rubbed because that can create smudging) and left to sit for a few minutes. How do tattoo artists use transfer paper? A smooth but heavy drawing paper that comes in individual sheets (not spiral bound or punctured) will give you a good foundation for your art. Medium – Typically, the standard size for flash sheets is 11×14. What paper do tattoo artists use for flash? Generally most artists use voltages around 7v-9v for lining (8 should be a good start) and 8-10v for shading. What voltage should my tattoo machine be on? While it may not prevent scarring and other changes, it can help keep your skin healthy. Do you use Vaseline while tattooing?ĭuring the Tattooing Process Tattoo artists use Vaseline when tattooing because the needle and ink are creating a wound The wound needs something to help heal, and Vaseline can act as a protector for your skin. Place the carbon paper on your fabric, waxy side down. Which side of carbon paper do I use?Ĭarbon paper has two different sides – one side feels more like paper and the other has a waxy or chalky coating (on coloured carbon paper, the colourful side is the waxy side). Tattoo transfer paper is what tattoo artists use to turn your pencil tattoo design into the guide for your actual tattoo The most common way to use tattoo transfer paper is use a thermographic type of paper to transfer your tattoo design to your skin. What kind of transfer paper is used for tattoos? Unless you’re confident enough to draw freehand, creating a tattoo on carbon paper is the best way to get a design from your head to someone’s skin Transferring the stencil requires shaving and cleaning the area and then applying the stencil. ![]() Your bot sends this message to leave a channel. I visited him once during one of my return trips to Connecticut after I moved to Florida (back in 1971). I spent many a weekend at this studio in Waterford and I know he took many many photos of me. On a lark, I did a search on Robin today because I was one of his models back in the late 60′s/very early 70′s. And true to Robin’s penchant for teaching, he taught me how to write a check properly – the way I have taught all of my children and will teach my two young granddaughters. Though I never saw him after leaving Connecticut, somehow Robin was always with me. Seems like a recipe used for Robin’s life. Never get complacent, never think you know everything, and keep exploring. His book sales soared as well! One of the things that Robin taught me and served me well in my 20 plus year career in photography was that there never was a time for not being the best you can be. Our work at school immediately changed with the words and ideas that Robin brought to the day-long seminar. I brought a group of students from my school and introduced them to Robin. Robin opened his studio to me and we established a friendship that was instrumental in my budding photography career. Just decided I needed to assist a working photographer and Robin was nearby in Waterford. I met Robin when I was a young photography student at the Rhode Island School of Photography and living in New London, CT. Not sure why, but Robin Perry popped into my mind last evening. He was definitely one of the favorite people in my life. Please feel free to check in if you like & we can chat about him in more detail. Just wanted to let you know that there was someone else out there who knew Robin & whose print career was really statted by Robin. When I saw all the documentation that you collected, I felt I needed to check in with some personal info that would not be found in the mainstream. He also took my first headshot which turned out to be a 30+ year print modelling career. I should explain that I had known Robin since I was very little as he & my father were close friends & had actually shot my parents wedding album. It also gave him some ideas on how to utilize this new device in his field work. This adaptor would allow instant 8 x 10 headshots to be available instantly but in a 8 x 10 format, & I was lucky enough to be his model for that process. He proceeded to install a newly received adaptor from Polaroid, to aid photographers in the shooting of headshots. He had me up to his studio many times, & one day I stopped by, just to say hi, when he asked me to sit on a stool in front of a camera. When I graduated from college in 1976, I returned to New London, CT where I bumped into, & re-established my friendship with Robin. Late one night, last week, I happened to look at one of my pictures which was shot by none other than Robin Perry, who just happened to be a friend of the family, but also my first headshot photographer in 1977. It will be good to hear his voice again…! I’ll try to work on these as time permits.Īlso have a few recorded telephone conversations – sitting on cassettes.
